New Vehicle (Vahana Puja)

A blessing for the journeys it will carry.

Before the first long drive, a Hindu family blesses the vehicle itself: a garland on the hood, a lime under the tyre, the svasti mantra over the wheel. Wherever the dealership is, that practice travels. This blessing carries their name into the oldest prayer for a safe road.

The prayer at its heart

Word for word, the way it has always been said. Their name goes at its head, and your words travel with it. The Sanskrit never arrives alone: a transliteration, so anyone can say it aloud, and its meaning in plain English.

Svasti Mantra: For Safe Journeys

svasti na indro vṛddhaśravāḥ svasti naḥ pūṣā viśvavedāḥ | svasti nas tārkṣyo ariṣṭanemiḥ svasti no bṛhaspatir dadhātu ||

May Indra of great renown grant us well-being; may Pūṣan, who knows all paths, grant us well-being; may Tārkṣya of the unbroken wheel-rim grant us well-being; may Bṛhaspati bestow well-being upon us.
